Victoire, the Frenchy behind Notes from Down Under

How this began...

I moved from France to Australia two years ago, for love and for a bit of adventure. Everything felt new: the atmosphere, the light, the birds, the way people talk, the strange and wonderful animals. I started keeping a diary just to make sense of it all. Notes from Down Under is that diary, sent to you. Every month I write about something I've noticed, learned, or fumbled through as a stranger here, French habits meeting Australian life. Ploc, my platypus friend, tags along for the ride.

Why I send letters

Something to look forward to

A letter takes days, weeks, to arrive, and there's something exciting in that wait. We feel genuinely happy when it’s here.

It slows things down

You sit down, you make a cup of tea, you actually relax to read it. That kind of unhurried moment is so rare these days.

A few small pieces of me

A sticker and a postcard I drew, my own handwriting on the front. Little traces of an actual person, not just words on a screen.

Meet Ploc

Ploc showed up in my sketchbook not long after I arrived, drawn without much thought, the way doodles usually happen. He stuck around. Equal parts curious and a little lost, he became a stand-in for how I felt most days that first year: paying close attention to a place that was still unfamiliar.

He's not really a mascot. He's more of a companion, the one who notices the odd detail I might otherwise have written past. He shows up in the letters, on the stickers, and in the small illustrations tucked into each envelope.

If you've ever moved somewhere new and felt half-curious, half-out-of-place, Ploc is probably a fairly accurate self-portrait.

Any questions?

A few practical things worth knowing before you subscribe.

All the answers
When do sign-ups close?

They close on the 29th of each month.

When are letters mailed?

Letters are packed and shipped in two batches: one mid-month, around the 15th, and one at the end of the month, once sign-ups close.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Every letter ships to Australia and worldwide. Shipping is free for subscribers, and $1.50 for a one-off envelope.

How long does delivery take?
  • Domestic (Australia): 5–7 business days
  • International, untracked: 2–4 weeks

Delivery times may vary depending on your country's postal service and customs.

Can I track my letter?

Not yet, soon. I plan to offer that service for my Aussie folks only because International tracked postage costs more than the subscription itself, so international letters ship untracked to keep the price accessible for everyone.
